  1. A colleague is asking for his daughter. I completed a 4 year Bachelor of Education degree from Melbourne University, but I think that's no longer offered. the usual pathway seems to be degree first then Master of Teaching etc. Any good recommendations? (Country doesn't matter)
  2. It's a good point and worth raising with the school/teachers involved.
  3. Hi JDK, I was working there when the Twin Towers fell. I do know Bob and I also worked at NIST the same time that Brett Penny was first working there. Thanks for the updated and more accurate numbers, I still think fondly of my time at NIST.
  4. You're welcome. It is one of the few that are full IB in Thailand, the others would be KIS, Concordian, Prem and UWC (Used to be Phuket International Day Academy). Bangkok is a great place to live, but to be fair, it's not really as cheap as you think to live as an expat. However, the package is good, so really it's not a problem.
  5. I like using Raja's Fashions. Raja and Bobby Raja's Fashions Address: 160 Sukhumvit Road, Khlong Toei, Bangkok 10110, Thailand Phone: +66 2 253 8379 Hours: Open today · 10:30AM–8PM Trip Advisor Reviews:https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g293916-d2083026-Reviews-Raja_s_Fashions-Bangkok.html website: http://www.rajasfashions.com/
  6. As someone who has has to read resumes to decide on who to employ, I agree keep it short, 1 page or 2 pages is ok. Longer, honestly, I skip sections or bin them. The most important thing is the resume must be clear, I do not want to spend time trying to figure out the important details, i.e. dates started, dates finished, schools worked at, qualifications obtained. Forget buzz words etc, unless you have evidence to back it up. One million percent agree. And also please list your experiences and qualifications in reverse order. I want to see most recent first. Another tip, and this may sound obvious, but do not lie. I recently canceled the contract of a teacher who had included false information on her/his resume. This includes degrees started but not completed, if you did not finish then state that you did not finish it- or don't include it at all. I recently read a resume that someone had listed a Master's degree with a start date as 2017 and finish date as 2019... it took me a minute to process what that meant.
  7. I worked at NIST International School in Bangkok about 10 years ago, however, I still have colleagues there who tell me it remains one of the best schools in Asia. NIST is a co-educational, day school that uses the IB curriculum and is accredited by WASC, NEASC and the IB, obviously. The school has something like 180 teachers and 1100 students with a very diverse background. Roughly 30% Thai, 30% Asians other than Thai and 30% mix of western expatriate children. The teaching staff is around 40 different nationalities. NIST is an equal opportunity employer. The package is very good, they do distinguish between local and overseas hire. You will work hard, but they look after you well, and central Bangkok is actually a great pace to live.
  8. Hi all, Lovely new forum, thanks for starting it, I hope it goes well. I started teaching in an International School in Semarang, Indoneisa in 1996, and become hooked. A visit to Kiribati, Central Pacific to visit some schools there just confirmed that feeling. I have taught Cambridge and International Baccalaureate curricula and I think both are great. I have been an IB Workshop leader for about a dozen years, and presented in about 10 countries around Asia and Australia. Look forward to getting to know you all... Pak Liam
